competition

I received my contract for the ArtFields art festival that happens in Lake City, SC, from April 25-May 3rd. It is billed as a competition and arts festival, and you are encouraged to prepare promotional materials, preferably a two sided card no larger than 5×7, that contains certain information that visitors can use to vote on your particular piece of art. Here is what I have tentatively prepared for that purpose.

This will be the front and back of a 5×7 card. They recommend printing 250-500, so there will be enough to last for the whole festival, which tells you how much traffic they get during the nine days.

I also found out the venue where my photo will be hung for viewing. It will be at a realty office on Main Street, the primary street in town. Seems appropriate for a retired real estate attorney photographer, don’t you think.

Part of me finds the whole competition thing a bit odd, artist versus artist and all, especially with the amazing diversity of art from almost 400 artists. The competition thing has two categories, a juried part and a people’s choice part, which is the text to vote thing. Amazingly the juried first prize is 50k, with lower amounts down to 2k. If you get one of those then ArtFields owns your piece and they exhibit them in their gallery spaces in town for a period after.

I am just happy to be there. If someone happens to like my photo enough to buy it, bonus.

Cheers!
