photos as raw materials

I rejoined the Durham Art Guild this year, and their members exhibit opens soon at their main gallery in downtown Durham, starting third Friday, June 20th. I have been playing with collage for a while now, using my photos or parts of photos. I created three pieces about three months ago using mounted abstract prints that I had left over from my show at Skylight Gallery in March of 2024, basically the rejects that were not in that exhibit.

I have posted some collage examples here and shown them to friends, but this will be the first time I will have one of my collages on exhibit in front of the public. Now the DAG members show is not juried, if you are a member then you get to submit something to be hung, so I just had to decide which piece to submit. This is the one I picked.

It’s about 24×24 inches, and is not under glass or plexiglass, so raw in that way. New territory all around for me. The show runs until August 3rd, and there will be two receptions, this 3rd Friday the 20th, and the 3rd Friday in July, the 18th.

Cheers!
