living in color

I took a random photo on the NYC subway in June of 2024, a busker who jumped on the train at the last second and ended up standing right next to me. He immediately began to play and talk to the captured audience at the same time. I asked to take a couple of photos, to which he gladly said yes.

C train busker, NYC

I submitted this photo to the Living In Color art festival and exhibition now going on at the All Faiths Chapel at Dix Park in Raleigh, and it was accepted. The opening reception was this past Sunday, delayed eight days due to the snowstorm the previous weekend. The show is primarily for the purpose of showcasing Black artists in the area during Black History month. It was truly an honor to be included.

My wife Kitty and I returned late Sunday afternoon, and of course the other thing going on Sunday was the super bowl. My exuberant busker is Puerto Rican, and was excitedly looking forward to the annual Puerto Rican Day parade in New York, where he plays and participates with his drum. Sunday after the halftime show, I thought about how proud he must be after his culture and heritage were celebrated for the whole world to see.

We are all America!

Cheers!
